So for our first official blog post, I figure I should set the scene for how things will go. We are nervous and excited to share with you… We are both Portuguese, homeschooling our 3 children, we are Preppers (not the doomsday variety, but more on that later), we are vegan (as my wife and daughter have intolerances), and we want to have our own homestead one day… I have never written a blog before. Just like I have never really kept a diary – but don’t worry, this will be the best you will ever read… I hope… See, we have a dream… But for our dream to happen I knew I MUST keep some record, to keep myself accountable and to make sure that we could look at it and say: we did it! So what is the dream? This one in particular is to take my family and travel around Europe WWOOFing. Whats WWOOFing? It stands for: World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Generally speaking: you exchange your time for accomodation and food. How did we come to this? Well, I have to admit I have never been one to have a normal life… but after much ado with jobs, near the end of 2013 I got one near sheffield and things were going swell – weekly pay and all! It was one of the best Christmasses we had as a family and I thought things were swell. Then one afternoon on January 16th, it all ended. Once again, someone else had power over my life to the point of deciding if I stayed working or not. After sitting and pleading for 20min, I realised it was useless, and was escorted out of the building like any common criminal. 8 Others left that day too. As I stood feeling sorry for myself in the carpark waiting to be picked up, I decided that this was no good. There had to be more to life and I certainly wasn’t seeing it then… In debt, without an escape, no family nearby, and feeling miserable… However, I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and spoke with some friends on Facebook, one of which offered the idea of WWOOFing. After discussing it, my wife and I reseached it together, and made a plan… And that plan is what will unfold in these pages of this site/blog. Once the decisson was taken, it was a case of sitting and looking at our circumstances and seeing how we could do it. Ideas and plans have been flying around and its been exhilirating. With 3 kids on tow, we will be doing something totally out of the norm, and it will be a ride and a half… Join us…
