Our Equipment and Gear - for a short 12 day trip 2015
One of the FIRST things we looked at when we were researching our plans, was other people's gear! We wanted to know what they had, look at the cost and if we could afford it! (usually the answer was no we couldn't afford it!)
We wanted to see if it was practical for US and our finances and go from there.
We considered many options before we searched out and bought the bikes we have... and we knew that as the kids grew and things changed we would be changing our gear too! So this page will change accordingly.
Also, we don't have all the gear yet so our pictures wont look like the beedle Family blog and their very lovely organised photos...

Ligia's Bike: (for training)
This was my wife's first bike since childhood.
It was with much apprehension that we looked at this bike - but we also saw that buying a cheap frame bike would be kind of pointless too, and we would be buying again! The italian designed and made Cittadella was a more expensive urban bike that would survive the bashing from training and a less experienced rider. Its better balanced, beautifully designed and a wonderful ride! Will it take my wife on the world tour? Not sure. Only time will tell! |
Daniel's Bike: (for training)
Ok, So I went and got a Tandem.... (How I got it here!)
The Orbit Tandem I choose was the older model which apparently is no longer made and is a lightweight Aluminum frame. Although our Eldest is not quite tall enough to ride with me just yet, I am confident that his growth spurt is going to continue and that in a few weeks/months he will b able to ride along with me. Again, we are uncertain if this bike will join us on our world tour, but we are playing this by ear.... |
Kids Trailers:
Camping gear:
This isnt a list so much as it is a layout of all our gear we took with us on our first expedition....
We probably have WAY more than what we need. But with a large family it makes sense to have back ups!

"Kitchen" wares:
Ok this was just our "getting started kit"...with food for the first day or so.
Conclusion:
All in all we had TOOOOOO much stuff... but still...it was a good exercise in practising this lifestyle.
